WEC's last event and a few thoughts on Matt Serra

I hope most of you watched WEC on Sunday because if you missed it then you missed a treat espescially the title fight between Takeya Mizugaki vs. Miguel Torres. A great five round fight that i would've liked to have seen a finish because the decision was complete bs. I'm not taking anything away from the fighters both of them gave one of the best fights of the year in my opinion. On the other hand the fight proved that the judges will always heavily favor the champ. Because to make it a unanimous decision was pure favoritism. I know that the generale rule of fighting is to never leave it in the hands of the judges because you'll probably get screwed. I know that in the ten point must system one of the fighters has to win the round but I watched the fight and will say the Mizugaki should've gotten at least one of the judges or won the fight.

From what I saw I thought that Torres eeked out the 3rd and 4th rounds. Mizugaki eeked out the 1st and 2nd and totally won the 5th. Torres did a great job the whole fight of countering and trying to get the sub on the ground Mizugaki was the one who usually put him on the ground. In the 5th Mizugaki knocked Torres down three times and just started to dominate the fight, then the bell rang. The judges must think that countering is the golden poop because everytime that Torres countered Mizugaki was right there with a shot of his own. In the end the judges didn't agree with me but I believe the decision to be heavily biased. I'll go so far as to say the Mizugaki got robbed.

Matt The Terror Serra is he a fluke that got incredibly lucky or is he a real deal contender. Let's go back in time a bit. 2001 to 2004 his first big run in the ufc he goes 4-3 not that great since most of the victory came from less than stealler fighters. Anytime he fought a contender like BJ Penn he got the crap knocked out of him. He had one fight in 2005 Karo Parisyan which he lost. Then he was done until the Ultamite Fighter 4 where he got a second chance at the UFC. He defeated Chris Lytle in the finals and got to face Georges St-Pierre for the Welterweight Championship. Going into UFC 69 no one including me thought Serra had a chance against St-Pierre well miracles do happen because he beat him in 3:25 of the first round. Completing a Cinderella story back to the UFC.

Serra then moves on to the Ultimate Fighter 6 where he coached against a man that he and I both HATE! Matt Hughes. Who he's scheduled to fight at UFC 79 but has to bow out due to injury. Georges St-Pierre and Matt Hughes battle it out for the interm title with St-Pierre wining in the 2nd. UFC 83 is where Serra finally comes back to defend his title and guess what happens he gets the crap kicked out of him badly with the ref having to stop the fight at the end of the 2nd. He was outclassed thew entire fight by GSP but he was in Canada and the crowd was not kind. Did that have an effect. It shouldn't have if he's truly a world class fighter.

Matt Serra will get another chance to prove that he's not just a fluke at UFC 98 when he takes on Matt Hughes. If he can't beat Hughes then I say he's a one trick pony and that's all folks. Well on May 23rd I'll be rooting for Serra to pull another miracle because I hate Hughes more than anyother fighter except for Koshcheck. So go Serra prove everybody wrong!
